My name is Arlen Parsa. I'm a film-maker, a website-maker and a trouble-maker.
My quirky documentaries have screened at film festivals across the United States. I recently produced the world premiere of my great grandfather's 80 year old long lost opera. (I also made a funny documentary about that adventure.)
I've also worked on a bunch of other people's Chicago documentary & corporate film projects, collaborating with groups like Kartemquin, Interchange Productions, Groundswell Educational Films, Montrose Pictures, Storyview, and Ruthless Films and a ton of individual filmmakers.
Frequently asked questions
Are there any cool upcoming projects you're working on?
Hail yes! Some really neat stuff that I'm not talking about yet. You can keep up with my newsletter by signing up below. I also post one photo every day on Instagram. You can also follow me on Twitter where I mostly post really boring political stuff.
Your name is really weird.
I know, right? My father is from Iran and my mother is from Illinois. When it came time to choose my name, my dad came up with a list of his favorite Persian names and my mother came up with a list of her favorite western names. They swapped lists and my dad chose Arlen off my mom's list for my first name and my mother chose "Kian" off my dad's list of middle names.
I'm working on some neat things that I can't talk about yet but if you sign up you can be the first to know about new projects.
